Youth-Led Climate Projects

Our initiatives show how youth leadership drives climate action, blending science, art, and community care to regenerate land and inspire wider change.

Soil Schools – London, UK
Funded by Funding Our Futures from Southwark Council, Soil Schools empowers children to become soil scientists and land stewards. Local pupils turned a neglected waste site into a living classroom, cleaning the dump, testing soil health, and building a wormery for continuous composting. Guided by a worm-science specialist, the students restored the soil and planted native vegetation, proving that young people can lead real urban regeneration.

SoundWood – Leeds, UK
Supported by the Leeds Climate Hackathon, this project teams Guardians Worldwide with Leeds Conservatoire students to explore eco-acoustics—the music of living forests. Through workshops and soundwalks, young musicians record and analyse woodland soundscapes, raising awareness of how healthy ecosystems create complex acoustic environments. The work inspires new compositions and a deeper appreciation of forest biodiversity.

Kano Climate Youth – Nigeria
In heat-stricken urban Kano, a dynamic group of young women and girls leads a grassroots reforestation movement. They plant shade trees, restore degraded plots, and educate neighbours on climate resilience, tackling desertification and deadly heatwaves.
