Vaagdhara and the Bhil people
Bhil are one of the ancient tribes of India, from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarati. Many of us follow the age-old tradition of ‘halma’ or nature guardianship. The Bhil peoples of Vagad also practice different forms of swaraj (sovereignty), based on Gandhi’s teachings, such as Water and Vegetation Swaraj and Land and Livestock Swaraj, as well as nature schools (Kisan Pathshala and Val shala). The land of Vagad is legally owned by the Bhil. Indigenous families are legal landholders and are wholly responsible for the guardianship of the land
