Welcome to the Clootie Tree
FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN FOR GUARDIANS WORLDWIDE
Join The Clootie Tree
A Community of Heart-Centered Action!
The Clootie Tree usually stands next to the sacred Clootie Well in the Celtic tradition where people make offerings and write wishes and prayers on rags hung from the tree, especially when a cure for an illness is needed. From the heart of the British Isles to the heart of Abya Yala, this symbolic tree of hope is a space to show generosity, reciprocity and kinship, to help support the healing of the world’s most ecologically important forests.

We Believe Together We Can Heal the World’s Most Iconic Forests and Our Life on This Planet.

Why It Matters
Protecting the Atlantic and Amazon forests and the Indigenous communities that look after them is integral to maintaining the ecosystem that supports the human population and also for climate stability, nature’s diversity, global and regional carbon and water cycles. The territories where Indigenous Peoples live abide by traditional laws of forest governance. Indigenous forest guardianship plays a vital role in global climate action. According to a recent FAO report, a holistic effort to reduce deforestation and forest degradation in Indigenous territories would
significantly improve food security and human health.
Historically, forests in Indigenous territories have suffered much less destruction than the region’s other forests. The World Bank estimates that 80% of the world's entire biodiversity is protected by Indigenous Peoples. Several factors that have enabled Indigenous peoples to protect primary forests are under serious threat, and forests are facing worsening droughts, all-year long fire seasons, logging, mining, and many other threats. At current rates of deforestation, 27% of the Amazon biome will be without trees by 2030 (WWF). This would trigger the Amazon Tipping Point, at which point the forest would naturally and irreversibly turn into a savannah.
Together We Can Change This
We invite you to join our community to heal the planet and its ailing forests, in collaboration with the frontline Indigenous nature guardians devoted to the protection and restoration of tropical and temperate forests and waters and their life-sustaining role.
What We Do
This fundraising campaign supports five Indigenous-led reforestation programmes in the Atlantic and Amazon Forests. Your donation will go toward reforestation and the protection of forests under threat, and help provide frontline forest and river guardians with essential economic and technological support, as well as assist with capacity building.
